Krasne Gorky tulip fields

Red tulip fields at Krasne Gorky

The tulip originates from the hills in Kazakhstan and nearby Central Asian countries. Although much of the land is cultivated in Sovjet time, there are still many places where the tulip can be found in its original habitat, untouched by human intervention, even outside nature reserves. One of those places is Krasne Gorky near Jabagly. Krasne Gorky means red hill in Russian. In the second half of april, the south hills turn red of the many Greig tulips which grow here in their original habitat. This place can be reached by car from Jabagly in about 25 minutes.

When the season commences, other species like Kaufmann's tulip will show their flowers on hills higher in the mountains. This continues until june. The latter places are often difficult to reach, but Krasne Gorky is an exception. From the main road Almaty-Shymkent, you can drive with a luxury car to the hills over a sand road. Only when the road is wet because of rain, you'll need a 4x4.

There is no entrance fee to go to Krasne Gorky. For those wanting to see this natural beauty, Wild Natures provides a sheet with driving instructions at no costs. An alternative is to take a local taxi from Jabagly to Krasne Gorky.
Beauty is only skin deep,
but ugly goes clean to the bone.
