House construction near Jabagly
Although concrete is one of the preferred building materials in Kazakhstan, on the countryside most of the houses are still built using ancient techniques with loam and straw. This looks strange in modern times, but experience has proven that these houses last at least as long as the concrete buildings in this earthquake prone area. Maybe the flexibility of the building material prevents the walls from cracking. Also the insulation is much better than with pure concrete.
