Hotel Kazakhstan in Almaty
Because of the periodic earthquakes and mud slides, most buildings in the largest Kazakh city Almaty only have a few stories. One of the exceptions is the Kazakhstan hotel. This hotel is located in the touristic center where also most restaurants and souvenir shops can be found. Although rooms are not cheap, service and quality is pretty good. Just as in ancient Soviet times, the rooms are divided in local class rooms with simple furniture and bathrooms, and rooms for foreign guests with Western style furnishing.
